Maana Kiyomizu
Nestled in the heart of Kyoto, Maana Kiyomizu is a hidden treasure surrounded by ancient heritage sites, serene gardens, and charming cafes. This project seamlessly connects the city's past and present, blending old and new elements to showcase the essence of Kyoto.
The three suites at Maana Kiyomizu are designed to embrace light and create a tranquil atmosphere, harmonizing with the surrounding nature. They pay homage to traditional machiya architecture while daringly reimagining its modern form. Collaborating closely with architects Shigenori Uoya & Takeshi Ikei, they managed to introduce light and air into these once dim and narrow spaces.
Coming home to Maana Kiyomizu feels like entering a peaceful sanctuary adorned with thatched roofs and lush greens. Each suite is thoughtfully equipped with Japanese self-care rituals, such as an artisan tea set, seasonal bath salts, and soft Imabari towels.
After a day of exploration, guests can unwind in the contemporary bathroom and enjoy leisure time with a selection of favorite reads in the evening.
ABOUT MAANA HOMES
Maana Homes was founded by two creatives and childhood friends, Irene and Hana. Conceived one starry night over some wine and scribbles on a restaurant napkin, they dreamed about a type of stay that would feel like coming home, filled with inspiration unique to its local culture without sacrificing design or comfort. They immediately started developing this creative hospitality project around their senses, hence naming it “Maana,” which means senses, and “Homes,” symbolizing the warm feeling of coming home. The founders strongly believe that our senses are an invisible medium to open our minds, hearts, and souls.
Developing their first three projects in Kyoto taught them a lot about finding inner peace, through rediscovering the everyday, transforming the expected, and finding beauty in imperfections. Inspired by this ancient city’s way of life and notions for living, Irene and Hana are excited and hopeful that through their tactile projects, their guests will also experience abstract moments that embody these ideas.
To experience peace within is the new luxury for Maana Homes, as they continue to create spaces that inspire and resonate with the essence of inner tranquility.
