The Kip
Tucked away in the peaceful jungle hinterlands of South Sri Lankan coastal town Ahangama, The Kip is a place of tranquility and ease, inviting guests to pause their fast-paced lives for a while and tune into the rhythms of an island that seems to know how to take our breath away. Aiming to kindle a sense of soothing serenity, the boutique hotel is designed to immerse in slowing down and experience fulfillment through spending the day with mindful intention.
Arriving at the 4-room colonial villa feels like visiting long-loved friends and so it only takes seconds until we feel both at home and at peace thanks to the warm-hearted hospitality of our hosts Phoebe and Seddy. While Phoebe will gladly share all her favorite inside-tips on where to find secluded beaches or how to live more sustainably, Seddy – born and raised in Italy – and his team cater for our (iced) coffee daydreams and handmade-pasta cravings.
Days at The Kip start with a wake-up symphony of palm trees whistling and the soothing sounds of distant waves crashing. They come with a long tapas-style brunch in the garden café and treasure hunts in the small corner shop – offering a range of locally crafted jewelry, beachwear and skin care as well as no-waste grocery goods sourced from the area and lovingly hand processed on-site.
We spend the afternoon observing Mr. Gardener taking fond care of the veggie patch and culti- vate slowness with a read in the hammock before making our way down to the nearby „secret beach“just in time for a vitalizing swim and a picturesque sun set – all to ourselves.
Being challenged to disconnect from our daily life in order to reconnect with what it means to live consciously and intentionally, has us experience The Kip as a place of honest connection, of community and contemplation, of honoring days spent in simplicity and mindful attention to a sense of presence found in the details.
