Kelly Croteau’ insider guide to The north shore of Oahu
Kelly Croteau, the woman behind Maison Plage, her sister Samantha, and Kelly's daughter Ireland, took their first trip since the pandemic started in March of last year. After being locked up for almost two months, what better than a girl’s trip to disconnect and reconnect with nature, outdoors, breathing pure and fresh air in a wild and tropical environment. "The quarantine was exhausting, and socially distanced us, but if we think about it in a positive way, it has united us with our family members and has made us value the small pleasures of life, which before seemed so insignificant. These three women, after spending so much time together locked up, have not thought of a better plan!
Why is it the perfect escape amidst the pandemic?
Any beach destination is great for the mind and body, the north shore has a down-to-earth feel where a simple life is preferred over materialism. Kids thrive here! I have a 7-year-old daughter, seeing her off electronics and making new surfing buddies was so cool to watch after the year we all had indoors.

Sunset Beach.

Sunrise Shack, best coffee, best bowls, smoothies, avocado toast..pretty much the best everything...we went every morning during our 10 day trip!

Chocolate Surf Break in Haleiwa - this is also a great spot to bring kids, you can rent paddleboards & kayaks at Surf N Sea.
Best Untapped Beach?
Kawela Bay, this beach is right across the street from Kahuku farms, a fresh fruit stand that is a "must stop" if you are driving towards Turtle Bay. Something that surprised you?
How good the food is, amazing, healthy food trucks. Also, how friendly the locals were.
How is the North Shore an inspiration for you as a creative?
The vibe on the north shore allowed me to slow down and think openly which sparked new ideas and reignited my motivation to continue to grow the Maison Plage brand.
